If you’re like me and your team is officially eliminated from National Football League (NFL) playoff contention, you are left with few choices: jump on a team bandwagon, pick a player you like and cheer for their team, or do nothing at all.
As a Minnesota Vikings fan, I’m choosing to do both of the first two options. I’ll be supporting the Buffalo Bills since a lot of my friends are fans of that team and because I want to see the best player in the league, quarterback Josh Allen win a Super Bowl.
Also having grown up watching the Bills lose four straight Super Bowls in the early 1990s, it would be nice to see them catch a break or two and win a title for their town.
Buffalo has never sniffed any professional trophy, so it’s about that time and with the Kansas City Chiefs no longer an obstacle, the path is a little less bumpy than recent years.
The Minnesota Vikings are the only other team to go to the Super Bowl four times (in the 1970s) without winning one. So, from the fan of one 0-4 Super Bowl franchise to another, Let’s Go Bills!
I’m hoping it’s a similar situation to Major League Baseball – the Boston Red Sox broke their curse and a few (12) seasons later, the Chicago Cubs did too. But, maybe not as long a wait in between.

For those whose teams are eliminated, but they just can’t find it in their hearts to cheer for the Bills (like my cousin Sylvia), here are my personal next best options.
Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens. One of the two most exciting players in the game (when fully healthy), the dynamic quarterback has also long faced detractors due to not having “won the big one.” His team needs to win out and get a bit of help to make the playoffs, but if they do, that’s a guy you can get behind.
The Jacksonville Jaguars. Literally no one picked them to make the playoffs, yet they’re first in their division with an 10-4 record (at the time of this writing). They will be the underdog team that “no one believes in” heading into the playoffs, which is as good a reason as any to support them.
The Carolina Panthers. The Jaguars NFL expansion cousins from 1995 control their fate. They have two games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the next three weeks. They win those, they win the division and get into the playoffs. Another team that will be underdogs in the postseason (if they make it).
If none of these appeal, I get it, but these are the teams and players I’ll be cheering for as the postseason arrives!
That’s it for me! Ciao for Now!
