My daughter and I were watching an episode of a show we really like the other day – me for the second time, her for the first – and she looks at me and says this show makes me cry so much.
I was like, yeah, this show gives me all the feels. No spoilers here, and I’m waiting until she’s done this season to watch the next one.
Also, I purposely haven’t mentioned it yet because it’s on the upcoming list.
I thought for a second and said, I’m going to do a blog post about shows and movies that our family loves to watch. Each of these shows at least two of our family members watch together.
So, seeing as I try my very best to always do what I say I’m going to do, here is a Top 10 List of Shows our family members like to binge.
10. Gilmore Girls. This is more my wife and daughter, but I’ll get into enough to know what’s going on and watch a few episodes with them. This is a relatively old school show that was made for small screen, cable consumption so there are a lot of episodes and seasons. The ladies in my life take breaks as they go through the series on Netflix.
9. Working Moms. This one is more just me and my wife, but it’s Canadian and extremely funny for parents, especially moms and even moreso moms with jobs. Check it out on CBC Gem or Netflix.
8. Children Ruin Everything. Another one that’s for the parental units and is Canadian made and is super funny. If you have kids, it’s a must-watch on Netflix or CTV.
7. Shoresy. This one is literally just me and my son, but my wife will laugh on occasion if we’re watching it and she has to admit the hyper-Canadian, hockey centric comedy is very funny. Check it out on Crave.
6. Ginny & Georgia. I absolutely hate to admit it, but I kind of like this show (and the next one on the list) that originally were just for my wife and daughter. It’s crime, drama, coming-of-age, and dark comedy all rolled into one. They knew it would be a hit with the ladies in most families, but there is enough intrigue to keep the dudes interested as well.
5. Emily in Paris. I totally can’t believe that Emily treated Alfie that way. I so hate that cheater Gabriel. She so needs to be with Marcello. Literally the cheesiest, funniest, ridiculous show around, but it’s got us hooked. Good looking stars, Eurocentric vibes in the world’s most passionate locales, and solid performances make this a fun show (as long as you don’t take it too seriously).
4. Wednesday. Just watch it. It’s awesome. Dark comedy, solid acting, monsters and outcasts, and a little detective action as well. Watch on Netflix.
3. S.W.A.T. All four of us love this show. Shemar Moore kills it as the lead, and the supporting cast is solid too. This is one where Dante started watching first and the rest of us got sucked into it as well all the way until the end. Watch on Netflix, Global TV, or Amazon Prime Stacked TV.
2. Kim’s Convenience. The whole family loves Mr. Kim and his fictional family. We even went to the real Kim’s Convenience in Toronto once just to say we did and had a nice chat with the owners who knew exactly why we were there right away. Of course, we bought a few things because that’s what you do. It’s still available on CBC Gem.
1. The Rookie. This is the show we alluded to in the intro. It’s annoyingly heartfelt and I have no idea why, but the characters really bring you into their lives to the point of crying when sad things happen. Maybe I’m getting more emotional in my old age, or maybe it’s just a great show that has that effect on people. Dante started watching it and then got us all hooked. And Juliet absolutely “Ships Chenford” – that’s a inside Rookie thing you’ll get when you watch it. Because it has us all hooked, it shoots to number 1 on our list! Netflix (through Season 5, though Season 6 is coming), Crave (all seasons), or CTV (for cable TV subscribers).
If you haven’t had a chance to check these out, they’re worth a go!
That’s it for us! Ciao for Now!
