A couple of Sunday’s ago, my phone starting dinging and it was a video chat via WhatsApp.

Rarely do I get unscheduled video chats, but I smiled when I saw who was calling.

My buddy Frank, who I do the Chris’ Corner sports pieces for in his newsletter, was randomly calling on a Sunday afternoon. That in itself was a bit of a surprise, but then when I answer, there is Frank with another old buddy of ours Mike who I hadn’t seen in almost 30 years.

It was hilarious because they called me out right away, “you just woke up from a nap,” which was totally true.

But, it was nice to chat for a bit, see some friendly smiling faces and just be in the moment of wow, it’s been so long, great to see you guys!

Mike grabbed my number and immediately texted me so we’re now in each other’s contacts. As soon as I got off the phone, I called another friend of ours, Roman, who I had meant to call since we usually see each other once a year in person.

He and I then had a great chat and we’re making plans to meet up for coffee or another beverage soon.

It also reminded me of a couple of years ago when I got a random message from yet another old friend of all of ours, Leonardo, who was in Muskoka for a dance competition with his family.

We ended up meeting at the cottage they were staying at and having a nice evening catching up.

I’m sharing all this to say, “don’t forget to pick up that phone or video chat and make that call when you’re thinking about someone.” When it happened to me, it literally made my day and then I passed that vibe on to the next buddy.
