Mark Carney was voted in as the new Liberal leader, making him the Prime Minister of Canada for the time being.
For all intents and purposes this is simply a stop gap measure as almost certainly an election will be triggered at the federal level.
Yes, Canada, we’re going back to the polls and this time it’s serious! Perhaps more serious than ever as we’ve devolved into a bunch of far left and far right political packs of rabid dogs that would rather diminish the other side than prop up our nation.
Yes, it’s both sides. Yes, it’s all the extremists. Yes, it’s the guys and gals you like too.
Then there are those of us in the middle, the moderates who I wrote about many times before, but most recently in my Call for Unity oped.
We’re hoping for someone, anyone to show us they are in it for all Canadians of all walks of life.
We’re hoping for a real leader, a la Jean Chretien and Brian Mulroney, who can unite our nation rather than help tear it apart.
We want a leader who would rather share ideas and plans regarding public policies to boost our economy, solve housing issues, and raise Canada’s level on the world stage once again.
We want a forward-thinking leader who understands trade and finance and the economy more than they understand attack ads and division.
We want a moderate leader who will be closer to the centre and act as such both fiscally and socially because that’s what the majority of Canadians are – centre right or centre left.
We need a Red Tory or a Blue Liberal to take office for the next four, eight, even 12 years and bring our nation back from the brink of disaster.
With the schoolteacher out of office and no longer sticking up his nose and talking down to us like a bunch of underinformed children, it’s time for real leadership to rise.
Who that happens to be remains to be seen. We’re seeing that a certain party refuses to change their playbook despite no longer being able to point out that their leader is “not Trudeau.”
But, aside from a bunch of empty and often antagonistic words, nothing concrete has come out to show us that they’re ready to lead.
In the same way the silver spooned babe wasn’t ready to lead and created a lot of division in our nation, the other side is not showing us a will to unite either. At least not at this point.
I really thought that the Conservatives would change tactics once Justin Trudeau left office. I had faith they would get back to civility and proper Canadian politics of sticking to the issues at hand.
They still might, but they haven’t yet. They are still using the US style attacks more than showing us what they will do better than the previous governments.

Moderate Leadership: A Hope for Canada’s Next Election
The door is wide open for Carney and his party to bring the Liberals back from the brink of madness and cozy up to the political centre.
How can they do that?
Explain to the moderate majority of voters about what policies and plans they have to create a better Canada now and into the future.
Don’t delve deep into the unnecessary and unbecoming mudslinging that has been prevalent in Canadian politics for far too long.
Don’t succumb to populist antics that only serve to aggravate and agitate. Take the high road. Be honest in your words and actions. Rather than diminish the other guys, tell us why you can do better.
Tell us about how you’ll fix the extreme social policies that helped divide us the first place.
Tell us about your tax plans and how it’s important to find efficiencies in every facet of government to be fiscally responsible.
Tell us about your experience on the global stage and how it benefits Canada to be a respected player rather than a sad observer.
This is the stuff the moderates want to hear when we decide who to vote for. Remember, most Canadian voters are independents and don’t necessarily vote by party.
Give Canadians a reason to vote Liberal again, since Trudeau pretty much pushed all the moderates further right than they had ever been before.
