Sunday Evening Scare

Reckless driver hits neighbour’s house in Huntsville

The loud screech and bang could only mean one thing: a vehicle collision.

On an otherwise lovely and peaceful Sunday afternoon, a neighbourhood was quickly snapped into alert as a driver lost control of his vehicle and slammed into his neighbour’s yard.

If not for a mid-size spruce tree, the truck may have gone through the home. Immediately, the owners of the home (thankfully they didn’t suffer any physical injuries, but surely there are some emotional ones) came running out and despite their utter disbelief in the situation, called 911.

They also looked at this guy and said, “you’re always flying in and out of that parking lot way too fast.” Apparently, this guy’s truck is often heard and seen screeching in and out of the duplex apartment building he lives in.

An ambulance showed up but there were no injuries. Three police cars rolled up. Then a pair of fire fighters in an unmarked truck with the green light showed up. They weren’t needed either.

Though there isn’t a confirmation of a positive drunk driving charge, there was a breathalyzer administered and the driver of the vehicle was placed in restraints before being taken away in a police vehicle.

We’ll avoid assuming the drunk driving charge, as I’m sure the reckless driving as witnessed by a couple in a car who stopped to share what they saw with the homeowners and law enforcement was enough to be taken away.

Newly finished exterior

The worst part is the homeowner’s had just finished restoring the exterior of their home – with their own hard work – and the siding was pretty new.

Luckily, the truck didn’t go right into the house or something worse would have happened. They have two nice dogs that could have been playing outside, they could have been gardening, or even some bystanders or pedestrians could have been hit by the out of control vehicle.

As many neighbours in the area mentioned, the couple who lives in that house are really good, kind people who help out when they can.

It’s a shame they had to go through this, but thankfully they’re okay (at least physically).
