The BFG is near

Tickets still available for upcoming HTC production at the Algonquin Theatre

Press Release with Chris O. Edits/Additions

“Abbey is doing BFG!” “We should see Abbey doing BFG!” and on and on.

At first, my media savvy mind wondered: “What is BFG and is it dangerous?”

So, I asked my daughter and she smiled wryly when explaining that BFG is Big Friendly Giant, the play that one of her BFFs is acting in. Of course, a few of the girls are going to see the play and support so many of their friends putting on the Huntsville Theatre Company Production.

The BFG is part of their Theatre is My Passion Program, and tickets are still available for each of the four performances taking place at the Algonquin Theatre on June 14 (7 p.m.), June 15 (2 p.m. and 7 p.m.), and June 16 (2 p.m.).

Though tickets are still available, they were going fast when I bought the ones for our family – and that was over a week ago!

Tickets can be purchased through the Algonquin Theatre at www.algonquintheatre.ca

Stage Adaptation of Classic Book

The HTC’s Theatre Is My Passion Program is an after-school program for ages 8 to 18. Participants learn what it takes to put on a theatrical performance and perform a full play as the final product.

The BFG is a stage adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic book about the 24-feet-tall Big Friendly Giant and a little orphan called Sophie brings some of Dahl’s most memorable characters to life.

The BFG and Sophie team up to save the children of England from the child-eating giants Bloodbottler, Fleshlumpeater, Bonecruncher, Meatdripper, Childchewer and Gizzardgulper.

They are assisted by the Queen of England and the Heads of the Army and Airforce with their helicopters. Locations include the BFG’s cave in Giant Country, Dream Country and Buckingham Palace.

Director Christine Robitaille says she is excited to see this fantastical story come to life on the Algonquin stage.

“The BFG (Marigold Mason) and Sophie (Marlena McIntosh) will surely capture your hearts with this magical story,” says Robitaille. “The whole cast and crew is hard at work getting ready for the show date. We hop to see everyone there to support these amazing youth.”
