Photos: Animal Friends

Some pics I’ve taken recently of our friendly neighbourhood wildlife

It’s the busy spring/almost summer season, which means Dockside Publishing deadlines to be met, soccer coaching (and playing) ramping up, and life in general being a little bit more hectic.

Which is why, it’s nice to take a moment or two to appreciate nature when the opportunity arises.

On that note, here are some recent photos, starting with my favourite groundhog who comes back year after year . . .

Rockin’ Robin

A few years ago I had a soon-to-be torn down, dilapidated garage that some robins nested in. One day, when going in to grab our waste to put on the road, I found one of the chicks had fallen out of the nest.

Seeing some neighbourhood cats on the prowl, I found a large wood plank and proceeded to help the chick back into the nest.

The next year, and in subsequent years, there has been at least one robin on our property completely unafraid of me walking around it . . . I like to think this is the chick I saved.

Birds of a Feather

Sometimes you see something and just strikes you as a weird occurrence, so you snap a photo. This was the case with these blackbirds watching us at the soccer field a few days ago.

My Spider Friend

As has been noted on more than one occasion for more than one media outlet, I love spiders and let a choice few live in my basement. For the reasons why, check out: My Top 5 Creepy Animals.

The other day, one of our resident spiders living in our cold room reminded me why I love them so much as it had a bug in its grasp. I smiled, said “thank you” (yes, I speak to animals) and took a couple pics. Lighting isn’t great, but you get the picture – pun intended (hehehe).

That’s it for my most recent animal pics, but as always, I’m sure more will be on the way this summer!
