Sunshine list edition – we’ve put together all of Muskoka in one post for our readers

Each year municipalities across Ontario are required to make public the names, positions, and salaries of all employees of publicly funded organizations making $100,000 or more in the previous year.

This requirement falls under the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act 1996 and the list for 2023 has recently been released.

Since the list tends to illicit interest from the public, we’re putting the District of Muskoka plus the Towns and Townships in the region under one post for all to see and compare.

NOTE: The $100,000 threshold seems a bit outdated – and has been for years – and a $125,000 or $150,000 cutoff line would be more accurate when taking into account inflation and salary standard increases throughout the years.

For some perspective on our local sunshine lists, the highest paid people in Ontario were Kenneth Hartwick, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) President and CEO, at a salary of $1,925,372.00 and $7,539.84 in benefits; OPG Chief Strategy Officer Dominique Miniere ($1,194,532.69 and $3,268.80), followed by three more OPG C-Suite staff members.

Premier Doug Ford was the highest paid elected official at $208,974.00 and $290.76; Simcoe Muskoka Chief Medical Officer Dr. Charles Gardner earned $316,546.22 and $1,033.89.

In Muskoka, the highest paid public official in 2023 was District Solicitor Jamie Clow at $189,402.21 and $1,022.58, followed by Arfona Swiers, District Commissioner of Community and Planning Services, at $189,402.13 and $1,022.58.

We have compiled each list for Muskoka’s municipalities, but those interested can find the full provincial list at: https://www.ontario.ca/public-sector-salary-disclosure/2023/all-sectors-and-seconded-employees/
