Boys soccer gearing up for playoffs, strong week for Hoyas volleyball

In Muskoka-Parry Sound (MPS) high school boys’ soccer action, the Huntsville Hoyas defeated the Bracebridge-Muskoka Lakers 2-1 on Thursday. Zach Caplan and Johnny Fiorini scored for Huntsville with Knightley Wheaton replying for BML.

Later that day, the St. Dominic Dragons came from behind and got a late goal to tie the Almaguin Highlanders 1-1.

Up next are the MPS playoffs on Tuesday at Conroy Park in Huntsville. The semi-finals will see the Hoyas play the Highlanders and the Lakers face the Dragons with the winners meeting in the final.

The winner of the MPS playoffs will head to the GBSSAA playoffs with a trip to OFSAA guaranteed to the team who finishes first.

Strong week for Hoyas volleyball

In boys’ volleyball action, the Hoyas had a strong week with both the junior and senior teams beating Lakers on Tuesday. The seniors swept their game 3-0 with a full team effort contributing to the win.

According to their coach Ross Clarke, they received excellent from veteran players Damon Buttus and Grant Leishman in the win, Hoya Alumni Tanner Heath was on the bench providing huge support for the Hoyas.

On Thursday, the seniors won again with a sweep over the Dragons, 3-0.
