Laughing at Myself: Favorite Memes from Friends

When you work with creative people, any little thing you do can be doctored up for a laugh

As a longtime writer and podcast host, I’ve often found myself working with a variety of fun and interesting people in the media.

Each one of them has a special place in my heart for a variety of reasons, and especially those who still keep in touch regularly.

But, I must say, the last few years working with my buddies Andrew Fearman (an exceptional photographer) and Matt Walker (an artistic master) at Dockside Publishing have produced some exceptional laughs.

Some of it being social commentary, some of it at people’s lack of common sense, and some of it as one of us being the willing target of some good natured ribbing.

However, my favourite jokes are when they make a meme from a photo of me – usually after I’ve posed so that Fearman can get his lighting right before shooting the real subject.

From the looking good to the ridiculous, here are my five favourites to hopefully give you a giggle at my expense.

The Newshound. Tip of the cap to my former colleague and all around great guy Curtis Armstrong for this one. He took a photo I posted and gave it a little makeover.

Muskoka Slow Jamz. This one was hilarious and yet flattering at the same time. Andrew Fearman and I were meeting a Lakeside Magazine client to take photos and the pose was perfect. I purposefully did a more “serious” pose because of the previous memes … a couple of which are below.

Believe! This is what I get for having some fun on the job. We were planning to shoot our friend Jayne McCaw of Jayne’s Luxury Rentals for the first time and while she was getting ready, I was the lighting test. A couple of days later, this shows up.

The Dad Bod Anti-Hero. It’s self explanatory LOL. After a long day travelling to and around Kawartha Lakes, this was the pose I did for the lighting set up. I still laugh when I see it.

Join the Dark side. This wasn’t even at work. I had injured myself while tearing down a mudroom at my house and posted a pic of a cut on my forehead to have some fun and ask my Facebook peeps if they could guess what happened. Unsurprisingly, there were more than a few who suggested mockingly that my beautiful wife did it. Matt saw it the photo and couldn’t resist.

He’s Lurking. What happens when a couple of graphic designers are waiting on copy and photos to complete a magazine? The answer is the following illustration. Nod to Matt and Marc Bonitatibus on this one …

I hope you enjoyed these memes and got a bit of a laugh at my expense. After years working with as many smart asses as I have, I can take a joke!
