Father’s Day is On the Way . . .

Ten ideas to celebrate your Dad this weekend

There are some really amazing Dads in the world who deserve more than just one day of celebration. They coach, they cook, they clean, they work hard, they listen, they give advice, they are just all that a dad should be.

Usually, they don’t want for much other than a good meal, some laughs and a hearty hug now and then.

Now and then, or at least once a year on Father’s Day, it’s the perfect time to show your appreciation in a special way.

On that note, here are ten ways to celebrate Father’s Day this year . . .

Wenonah II courtesy of Muskoka Steamships.

Take a Cruise. The Wenonah II is setting out from the Gravenhurst Wharf for a Father’s Day Dinner Cruise from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on June 17. The dinner will feature a buffet and craft beer samplings from Sawdust Cities and Lake of Bays Breweries. Visit https://realmuskoka.com/muskoka-steamships/specialty-cruises/ for more information.

Go Fishing. Without giving away the farm – or our favourite angling areas – there are plenty of great fishing spots throughout Ontario, including in Algonquin Park, Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, and Lake Simcoe.

Get Your Swing On. No, we’re not talking about dancing, through that’s always fun too. Get online or on the phone and book a tee time at a course near you, or better yet, your Dad’s favourite place to play. Options are well sorted at: http://www.ontariogolf.com/courses/

Take an Art Tour. The Huntsville Art Crawl is on throughout June; visit the destinations on the Lake of Bays Art Loop; or plan a tour of various studios and galleries, a couple of my favourites include Arts At the Albion in Gravenhurst and the Annex in Bracebridge.

See a Movie. Check out what’s playing near you with a simple web search. Those close to Muskoka can see what’s on at the Norwood Theatre or Muskoka Drive-In (for Friday or Saturday).

Trails are fun to explore.

Hike/Walk/Bike a Trail. There are plenty of trails to hike or walk or even bike throughout Ontario with a wide array of difficulty levels. Learn more from the Ontario Trails Council.

Enjoy a Nice Meal. Whether out on the town at a gastropub or restaurant or making it at home, treat your dad to a nice meal of his favourite dishes to celebrate Father’s Day.

Go Bird Watching. It may not be for everyone, but it can also tie into walking or hiking a trail.

Catch a Live Sports Event. This weekend the pickings in Ontario are slim, but maybe plan it for another and give the tickets as a gift.

Play sports together. Go kick a ball, play catch, frisbee, disc golf, or any other outdoor activity.
