Great efforts without the results for this guy; this and that in Huntsville and Muskoka
So, now that the summer season is upon us, this writer is at the pitch coaching three days a week and playing twice (one league, one pick-up match), in addition to being vice president of our club.
It’s a lot of fun and we have a wonderful group of kids and adults. Only, it kind of sucks when the results don’t match the effort.
My U11 Huntsville Strikers Girls team opened their season in Barrie on Monday with a tough loss (7-1) that didn’t match the work they put in. Seriously, we had just as many shots at and on goal, only Barrie’s shots went in and ours didn’t.
The worst part is we were only down 2-1 in the second half, then for some reason, the floodgates opened. As a coach, I just had to find the positives to point out and let the team know more times than not, their effort will lead to good results.
Then on Thursday night, our Adult Recreational League kicked off in Huntsville, and the team I captain (Dr. Marc Yarascavitch – Algonquin Orthodontics) lost by a score of 6-1 to Aimee Sinclair Fitness despite a strong work rate from our players and just as many, if not more, scoring chances and shots.
Oh, and our beloved AS Roma lost in penalties to Sevilla in the Europa League final.
So, overall rough week for me pitch-wise, but hey, the effort was there and better days are ahead!
Other Huntsville Happenings
The other Adult Rec League game Thursday night saw Canvas Brewing Co. edge by Best Life 2-1.
In Monday night Women’s League action, SportLab had a solid 7-2 victory over Muskoka Tea Company, with Cottage Country Flowers taking the full three points with a 3-2 result over Kim O’Grady Chestnut Park Real Estate While Cottage Country Flowers.
Player of the Match honours went to Maryah Robinson-Jackson, Katherine Ahokas, Erika Carr and Carly Litchfield.

The U10 Girls took a tough 4-1 loss to North Bay in their opener, while each of the U10 Boys, U12 Boys, and U12 Girls open their seasons this coming week (June 4 to June 10).
MUskoka United FC
The U17 Boys continued to be solid on the pitch with a 4-1 win over Barrie. They are in first place in their HDSL competitive division.

Also, the U15 Girls kicked off their season with a 1-0 victory over North Bay. They’ll be looking to build on that result game by game.

The U13 Boys took one on the chin this week, losing their opener 7-2 to Orillia U14 Boys. Though, it should be noted the MUFC boys are playing in the HDSL’s U14 division.
Meanwhile, two of the three teams in I-Model qualifying have had a really tough go so far in their first few matches against very high-end opposition (U15 boys and U13 girls), while the U17 Girls are just getting started.

We didn’t even get into the U20 World Cup in Argentina (Forza Azzurrini!) or Toronto FC’s empty victory over DC United before a 0-0 draw at home with the Chicago Fire (and somehow Bob Bradley and Bill Manning are still in town).
Well, we’ll save some of that for next week along with a look ahead to the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
